A guide to the official record paths
Ohio public-records rules provide a way to request many government records, but the agency holding a record matters. Tri-County Regional Jail maintains the current-custody view for its regional facility, the Champaign County Sheriff's Office provides a records-request route, courts record later case action, and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction has a separate offender search for people in state custody. This site brings those distinctions, official starting points, and request vocabulary together. It does not publish photos or copy agency databases.
What the guide covers
The site is built to separate a current-custody listing, an arrest or booking record, and a court outcome.
- The county guide explains the official roster, records requests, court follow-up, and the limits of a current-custody result.
- Sheriff's Most Wanted explains the safer official path for checking a possible warrant without treating an allegation as proof.
- Mugshots in the News distinguishes selected reporting and unofficial indexes from the originating agency record.
- City-specific pages for Urbana, St. Paris, and Mechanicsburg explain why an arresting agency, a regional jail, and a court may each hold different parts of the picture.
What this site cannot do
This is a private reference website. It is not connected with an Ohio government office, the Champaign County Sheriff's Office, Tri-County Regional Jail, a court, or a corrections department.
- It cannot place, hold, transfer, or release anyone in custody.
- It cannot post bond, arrange visits, or send funds for a visitor.
- It cannot give legal advice or interpret a case outcome.
- It cannot guarantee that an address, fee, office practice, or external result is current.
Only the government agency or court responsible for a record can confirm current custody, a release, a charge, or a case disposition. A guide can identify a source, but it cannot replace that source.
Search partners
Some pages include search tools operated by outside providers. Those providers set their own results, terms, data practices, and pricing. When a visitor chooses a paid partner service after using a referral link, this site may receive a referral fee that helps support the guide. A referral does not give this site control over a partner's results or charges.
